Synopsis: This is a clinical study of an investigational drug called risperidone which may be effective in the treatment of schizophrenia. The study will include approximately 260 patients in the United States and will be conducted in 15-20 sites. The purpose of this study is to compare the safety and effectiveness of daily doses of liquid risperidone in two different doses in the treatment of adolescents between the ages of 13 and 17 with a diagnosis of schizophrenia. The lower dose within this range may represent an ineffective therapeutic treatment.

Minimum Age/Maximum Age: 13 Years/17 Years
Genders: Both
Protocol Entry Criteria: Adolescents between the ages of 13 and 17 with a confirmed diagnosis of schizophrenia who provide assent and parental informed consent and be relatively otherwise healthy on the basis of physical examination and are able to be in-patient for approximately two weeks will be eligible for study enrollment.
