Predictors of Cardiovascular Disease in the Elderly Clinical Trials Info presented on Clinical Trials Search isn't intended to be a substitute for qualified medical advice, visits or professional assistance by using a real mD. We are not docs. Always confer with your physician about Predictors of Cardiovascular Disease in the Elderly conditions. Clinical Trials Search.org is a website committed to listing clinical research studies in human subjects. Predictors of Cardiovascular Disease in the Elderly Clinical research trials and Predictors of Cardiovascular Disease in the Elderly health trials occur in many of cities throughout the US. A clinical trial or clinical study is a research project with human volunteer subjects. Clinical drug trials and pharmaceutical clinical trials generally evaluate the effectivity of new does drugs. The intent of the studies / undertakings is to resolve particular human health questions. Clinical trials are a popular way for physicians, government agencies, and private sector companies to detect remedies for all sorts of conditions, including Predictors of Cardiovascular Disease in the Elderly. Predictors of Cardiovascular Disease in the Elderly Clinical Trials and other clinical trials permit volunteers to obtain healthcare treatment alternatives before they are available to the masses. Most times the participants undergo professional assistance for without cost, and occasionally they are compensated for their time. Occasionally there is a cost for a Predictors of Cardiovascular Disease in the Elderly clinical trial. Test subjects typically receive the most expert healthcare available for their Predictors of Cardiovascular Disease in the Elderly condition. Dangers are a reality, however, and may include more or frequent mD visits, healthcare dangers (perhaps life-endangering), and/or the treatment being ineffectual. Trials are federally regulated with rigid guidelines to protect clinical trials patients.

Predictors of Cardiovascular Disease in the Elderly

Predictors of Cardiovascular Disease in the Elderly

For Condition: Hypertension,Heart Diseases,Coronary Disease,Cardiovascular Diseases,Myocardial Infarction,Cerebrovascular Accident
Status: Completed
Sponsor(s): National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) ,
Synopsis: To evaluate factors associated with cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in a cohort of 795 men and women aged 75 years or older at the time of a comprehensive examination conducted between 1984 and 1987.
Details: BACKGROUND: The study was needed because evidence in 1991 suggested that cardiovascular risk factors which had been identified by studies of middle-aged populations did not have the same predictive value in the elderly; especially the "oldest old" aged 75 and above. DESIGN NARRATIVE: The study analyzed data that had been collected over the years. At the time of the analysis, mortality follow-up was complete for over 99 percent of subjects, and incident morbidity information was available for myocardial infarction, coronary bypass surgery and stroke. The database included measurements which allowed: 1) prospective analyses of the effects of putative cardiovascular risk factors on disease incidence in the elderly, 2) prospective analyses of the impact of change in risk factors on events in the elderly, 3) exploration of risk factors not classically associated with cardiovascular events in younger populations but which may be important in the very old, and, 4) cross-sectional description of putative risk factors in an aged population.
