Acupuncture in Fibromyalgia Clinical Trials Data presented on Clinical Trials Search isn't meant to be a substitute for qualified health advice, calls or treatment using a genuine doctor. We are not docs. Always consult your dr. on Acupuncture in Fibromyalgia conditions. Clinical Trials Search.org is a site dedicated to listing clinical research studies in human subjects. Acupuncture in Fibromyalgia Clinical research trials and Acupuncture in Fibromyalgia healthcare trials occur in a lot of of places throughout the United States. A clinical trial or clinical study is a research project with human volunteer subjects. Clinical drug trials and pharmaceutical clinical trials generally assess the potency of new drugs. The intent of the studies / undertakings is to figure out certain human medical questions. Clinical trials are a popular means for mDs, government agencies, and private sector corporations to locate remedies for all kinds of circumstances, including Acupuncture in Fibromyalgia. Acupuncture in Fibromyalgia Clinical Trials and other clinical trials allow volunteers to obtain health treatment alternatives before they are available to the masses. Many times the participants undergo treatment for free, and sometimes they are paid for their time. Occasionally there is a cost for a Acupuncture in Fibromyalgia clinical trial. Participants typically obtain the most effective healthcare available for their Acupuncture in Fibromyalgia condition. Dangers are a reality, nonetheless, and can include extra or frequent mD trips, medical hazards (potentially life-endangering), and/or the treatment being uneffective. Trials are federally regulated with rigid guidelines to protect clinical trials patients.

Acupuncture in Fibromyalgia
For Condition: Fibromyalgia,Pain
Status: No longer recruiting
Sponsor(s): National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) ,
Synopsis: Fibromyalgia is the second most common rheumatic disorder, affecting approximately 8-10 million persons in the U.S., and is characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain and soft tissue tenderness upon examination. This study focuses on the use of acupuncture as a mode of therapy for fibromyalgia. The issues under examination are: 1) the optimal duration of treatment, 2) the independent and synergistic effects of needle placement and needle stimulation, and 3) appropriate control strategies. The proposal utilizes a randomized, blinded, sham-controlled design to achieve these aims. Subjects are randomly assigned to one of four groups: 1)active site with stimulation, 2) active site, without stimulation, 3) sham site with stimulation, and 4) sham site, without stimulation. All subjects will receive acupuncture at escalating frequency, beginning at once per week and ending at 3 times per week. This "forced titration" design allows for the detection of inter-subject differences in responsiveness to acupuncture, as well as the factors which may predict responsiveness (or lack thereof). Secondary goals of the study are to collect data on the mechanism, safety, and cost-effectiveness of acupuncture in fibromyalgia, and to determine the optimal outcome measures, for a full scale research clinical trial.
